Masha Wysocka (b.1984) is a visual artist based between Barcelona (Spain) and Brussels (Belgium). Whilst she was born in the USSR, she has lived in various European countries. Being both Spanish and Belgian, she identifies herself as a multilingual speaker who embraces languages and cultures from Cadiz to Vladivostok. She holds an MA in photojournalism and documentary photography from London College of Communication (University of the Arts London). Moreover, she graduated from Institute of Political Sciences (Sciences Po Strasbourg) and has a BA in sociology from University of Strasbourg. She is one of the recipients of the Mead Fellowship awarded by University of the Arts London (2020) and a winner of other scholarships in Europe. She was selected for the following artist-in-residence programmes:  Villa Empain – Boghossian Foundation (Belgium), Archipel 19 (Belgium), Museum of the University of Alicante (Spain), La Fabrique d’Europe (France), Co-net (Spain), Izolyatsia (Ukraine). Her work is part of the art collection at the Museum of the University of Alicante (Spain). In 2021, her photobook ‘Truth is Stranger than Fiction’ was shortlisted for VI Fiebre Dummy Award (Spain). Masha Wysocka is interested in working at the intersection of different disciplines: history, literature, sociology, philosophy and science. She is a member of the feminist artist network “Room to Bloom” dedicated to ecological and postcolonial narratives.

Masha Wysocka’s work Jardín de Naturalización (The Garden of Naturalisation), will be shown at the Room to Bloom Exhibition from 21 – 25 April at the Cooperativa Árvore.
