Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida was born in Luanda, in 1982. She grew up in the outskirts of Lisbon, studied Lusophone Studies at Nova University (Lisbon), and holds a PhD from the University of Lisbon. She has published her essays in magazines and newspapers in Portugal, the United States, and Brazil. That Hair, her first novel, won the Prêmio Novos – Literatura in 2016. In the same year, she was one of the finalists of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. In 2018, she published Luanda, Lisbon, Paradise, and her most recent novel is called A Visão das Plantas (The Vision of Plants, 2019).


Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida contributed to the exhibition Hair, a video and sound installation by Plataforma UMA, that will be shown at the Cooperativa Árvore on  21 – 25 April.
