On April 25th, there will be a tribute to Maria Teresa Horta and the Three Marias’ poetic work. Through recitation and staging, the regime’s persecutions of which they were victims, after publishing the work Novas Cartas Portuguesas (New Portuguese Letters), will be judged. Through this tribute, the repercussions of the government against the Three Marias, the importance of these women in contemporary society, and how the feminist issues debated at the time remain relevant and current, in a country still marked by machismo and patriarchal power, which restricts the condition of women and reduces their role to marriage and motherhood, will be explored.
