The “Hortas da Bananeira” are a space, which remained vacant and abandoned by institutions and inhabitants, for growing vegetables, plants and herbs. It is a space that enables learning together, socialising, and solidarity. It is a community project, self-managed and self-organized in a completely horizontal way, without legal entity or lucrative ends, which exists and resists in private and public spaces belonging to the city council of Porto. This urban walk introduces the Hortas da Bananeira, located at Fontainhas, a communitarian garden that flourished during the quarantine, to rehabilitate a place completely destroyed by time that polluted both the earth and the urban landscape, that values mutual help, eco-sustainability, and accountability.
Unfortunately this activity is not recommended for people with limited mobility.
